| SHF U21 Championships 2010 Results Week 5
8 Feb 10, SINGAPORE: The Singapore Hockey Federation (SHF) 2010 Under-21 championships is reaching its latter stages and 275 goals have been scored over the 45 games that has been completed to date. Jansenites are the first boys side to book their place in the Boys semi-finals after two extreme results.
On Saturday, Jansenites found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-0 thrashing. Fielding only 9 players in that game, the side that boasts in the least 4 national players were destroyed by an eager and hungry Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) Team 1 outfit. Nonetheless, restored to a full eleven the next day, Jansenites handed out a thrashing of their own; mauling Singapore Khalsa Association 9-1 to ensure that they qualify for the semi-finals as group runner's up.
Khalsa will now need a huge 7-0 win over SRC to gain access to their ticket to the semi-finals. The two sides clash on 21 Feb after the Chinese New Year celebrations this coming weekend. In the meantime, in the other group, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games (YOG) squad qualified for the last four as well following their narrow but important 1-0 wins over Police Sports Association. The YOG squad qualified with a game to spare as Police and Old Rafflesians Association (ORA) drew their game on Sunday 1-1. ORA only need a draw against YOG to join them in the semi-finals and knock Police out.
In the girls competition, SRC scored a thumping 15-0 win over Hawks Hockey Club to register their claim to a place in the final four. The defending champions look in top form as they head to the Chinese new year break but should be able to deny Crescent B of sufficient points in their 21 Feb encounter to hand the other semi-final spot from Group B to Old Victoria Association-Victoria Junior College (OVA-VJC) who should claim all three points against the winless and goalless Hawks. Crescent B will need to beat the mighty SRC to join them in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile in Group A of the girls competition Crescent A claimed their place in the semi-finals following their 3-1 win over Vijayanti Hockey Club. Jansenites, which also have a 100% record are second in the group and their game against bottom side, Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) was postponed. Nevertheless, it looks more likely than not Jansenites should qualify for the semi-finals alongside Crescent A.
With so many things happenings, the goals tally too has been piling up. We can't tell you about all 275 of them, but we can give you an insight into which boys and girls have been doing the business. Muhd Haseef despite not scoring last weekend continues to lead with his 12-goals from 5 games.
Nursabrina Bhanu has come out of her dry spell and banged 6-goals last weekend to fly to the top of the girl's top scorers' rankings. The SRC girl will be eager to keep doing the job in the remaining round of games. Lee Jie Ying of Police is second on 5-goals, 5 adrift of Nursabrina's 10goals.
