| Silas lights the way for hockey in Olympia
21 July 2010, SINGAPORE | This Friday, 23 July 2010 will see the Olympic torch starting its journey to Singapore after passing through the 5 continents. This is an especially proud day for Singapore as it's the first time in the small country's history that their flag will be flown, high if we may add, in sacred Olympia, Greece.
Singapore hockey will especially be delighted on this momentous day as one of its national athlete one, Silas Abdul Razak Noor Shahhas been chosen to be one of two athletes to bear the torch from Olympia to the island republic.
When interview Silas said that it was a tremendous honour to be given this once in a lifetime opportunity. The 16-year old Silas said, "I cannot believe that I have been chosen to carry out this enormous task. My family is very proud of me and I think hockey in Singapore will also benefit because of my presence in Greece."
The Olympic Torch relay would have gone through Berlin in Germany, Dakar in Senegal, Mexico City in Mexico, Auckland in New Zealand and Seoul in South Korea before landing in Singapore. When it arrives, the Olympic flame will be paraded through the 5 districts of Singapore meandering through housing estates, schools, polytechnics and Universities before ending at the Marina Bay Promenade where a huge celebration is planned.
Silas' principal involvement in the Olympic Flame coming to Singapore will be a big boost for Singapore hockey as the sport continues its climb back into the top echelons of local sports. -Story by SHF
