Both national teams finished the Hockey Series Open with credible results and can hold their heads with pride.
The Women’s team although missing out on a Series Final place staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the higher ranked Kazakhstan and collect the Bronze model in the process.
The Men’s team have been described as the most impressive in the tournament and having comfortably won all their matches, it would be difficult to criticize that assessment. It is the first gold medal won by a Singapore Men’s team in an international tournament since the SEAP Games of 1973. The prize that beckons now is a place in the Hockey Series Final in 2019.
The podium finishes of both teams are even more impressive given the relative youthfulness of both squads. The Women’s team had an average age of 23 and the Men’s team an average age of 19.
