SHF pays tribute to Ms Annabel Pennefather

We mourn the loss of one of Singapore’s most passionate hockey and sports advocates Ms Annabel Pennefather who left us on 27 April 2020.

A trailblazer in the world of sports and a female sports administrator, Ms Pennefather was  resident of the Singapore Hockey Federation from 2004 to 2012.

She was also the first woman Vice President of the Singapore National Olympic Committee, and the only Singaporean to date to be elected as Vice President of the International Hockey Federation.

Apart from her role as an administrator, Annabel was also an outstanding technical official and was appointed the Technical Delegate for Hockey at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

She was also appointed Tournament Director of the Women’s World Cup in 1994 and 1998.

Apart from her outstanding role as an administrator, she will also be remembered as an excellent player having captained the Singapore Women’s National team in the 1970s.

The Singapore hockey fraternity owes a debt of gratitude to Ms Pennefather for being the driving force behind the building of the current home of Singapore hockey at the Sengkang Stadium.

This will always be her lasting legacy to the sport of hockey in Singapore.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong referred to her as an “accomplished sportswoman”.
Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam described her as an “outstanding act”.

She will be greatly missed and always remembered by the Singapore and global hockey fraternity.
